Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s National Committee on Tuesday approved Faisal Naseem as the opposition alliance’s presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s running mate.
On June 29 the opposition alliance decided to select a single candidate from the joint parties; the presidential candidate from MDP and the running mate from Jumhooree Party (JP).
With the parties’ decision to select one candidate, MDP selected Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as their presidential candidate at the party’s National Congress on June 30. Meanwhile JP selected Kaashidhoo MP Faisal Naseem as the running mate at a council meeting held on July 13.
MDP approved Faisal Naseem as the running mate at their National Committee meeting today. MDP’s Vice President Mohamed Shifaz submitted to approve Faisal Naseem as the running mate, which was supported by MDP’s Province President and former minister Mohamed Shihab.
Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also attended the meeting which took place at the building housing Salt Café. He had congratulated Faisal Naseem when the latter was chosen as the running mate, and expressed confidence that he could work well with him.
JP’s council also previously approved Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the opposition alliance’s presidential candidate.
