A petition has been prepared to be submitted requesting the Supreme Court to live broadcast the hearing on Sunday, on the case filed by President Abdulla Yameen seeking to annul the presidential election held during September.
People have begun signing the petition which requests the hearing to be broadcast live by the state media as the election result is the decision taken by the people and thus is a matter of great public interest.
The petition stated that the case submitted by President Yameen directly relates to the people of the country and therefore should be broadcast live.
In a tweet regarding the issue, former attorney general Husnul Suood stated that it was his request for all to sign the petition and submit it to Supreme Court on Sunday. The petition can also be signed and submitted online, the tweet said.
After suffering defeat at the September 23 presidential elections, President Yameen has filed a case at Supreme Court, seeking to annul the election. While a hearing on the case has been scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, the case is to be presided over by a bench of justices including Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi.
