President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih left to Saudi Arabia for Umrah Pilgrimage on Wednesday.
Solih’s spouse Fazna Ahmed, Speaker of Parliament Qasim Ibrahim, Adhaalath Party (AP)’s deputy leader Ali Zahir and some senior members of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) also left for the pilgrimage with Solih on Wednesday.
Solih travelled to Saudi Arabia on a special jet arranged by the Saudi government. Solih will be returning to Male’ next Friday.
Solih’s spokesperson Mariya Ahmed Didi said he will be meeting with some senior officials of Saudi Arabia during the trip.
Some famous Islamic scholars in the country also commended Solih for travelling on an Umrah Pilgrimage before taking presidential oath. These include Dr. Mohamed Iyaz who said the decision to go for an Umrah before taking office, is a very good decision by Solih. Dr. Iyaz also prayed for Solih’s work to be blessed and for the country to reach a safe harbor.
Furthermore, Sheikh Ali Ziyad said Solih’s decision to seek the Almighty’s aid before shouldering such a huge responsibility is commendable and a great beginning.
