Former member of the Judicial Service Commission, Aishath Velezinee has been arrested on Tuesday night.
Velezinee was arrested upon returning to the Maldives after staying abroad for a long period of time. Police had previously send her summons numerous times.
Police said she was arrested with a court warrant.
Police had on May 23, 2017 ordered Velezinee to be present at the police station within 14 days in relation to an investigation they were carrying out.
Velezinee was being sought for blasphemous comments regarding the Islamic Faith.
During March this year, the Islamic ministry had declared her an apostate
