Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has fined a resident who dumped trash on a public road in Male’ City on Wednesday.
With the alarming increase in such offences, EPA had previously warned the public against this, stating that the names and addresses of offenders will be publicized.
In a tweet on Wednesday, EPA wrote the name of the residence of the one who dumped the trash on the road.
“A person living in 03rd floor of H. Handhuvarudheyge has been fined under the Waste Regulation (2013-R-58) for dumping waste at H.Sadhubarakaage corner, Mustharee Magu”, the tweet read.
Although this is the first time EPA had publicized information on such an offence, they did not disclose the amount of the fine.
Since the incident was reported to the agency by the police, EPA thanked the police in their tweet.
Under the waste regulation, dumping trash on public roads is prohibited and offenders will be fined. As such, first time offenders will be fined MVR 300, and repeated offenders will be fined MVR 500 and if the waste is dangerous, it is well within EPA’s authority to increase the amount of the fine.
