Two new x-ray machines of the latest technology have been brought to Velana International Airport (VIA) to inspect and analyze airfreight cargo.
During a special ceremony held at VIA for the inauguration of the machines, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), who manages VIA, stated that they have began using the new machines on Monday.
In order to accommodate the machines, the interior space of the VIA Express Cargo Terminal has also been modified.
According to MACL, all airfreight cargo which are to be exported will pass through the machines, guaranteeing the safety and reliability of the cargo and their contents as well.
The major types of export cargo typically consists of frozen fish and other fish products.
MACL also went on to add that the machines are expected to ease several difficulties faced by export companies.
