Dhangethi MP Ilham Ahmed has decided to contest for the Ungoofaaru Constituency in the upcoming parliamentary election.
Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim’s advisor Ilham stated that he had no intention of contesting for the Dhangethi seat this year, rather, he will be contesting for the Ungoofaaru seat as he wishes to serve the people through the parliament.
Ilham said he had applied for JP’s electoral ticket for the Ungoofaaru Constituency.
He was first seen as the MP of Gemanafushi, after which he has been serving as the Dhangethi MP in the current parliament. Although he will no longer serve for the constituency, Ilham assured the people of Dhangethi that he would always maintain his bond with them.
Meanwhile, former defence minister Mohamed Nazim has announced that he would be contesting in the Dhangethi Constituency on JP’s ticket in this year’s election.
Ilham, who had joined JP for the second time, had formerly served as the party’s deputy leader. He was also the deputy leader of both Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP).
The current MP of Ungoofaaru is PPM’s Jaufar Daood.
