Royal Island is geared to start an apprenticeship in collaboration with Villa College to introduce more youth to the working prospects of the hospitality industry.
Royal Island Resort and Spa stated that the program is designed for fresh graduates out of school who are interested in pursuing a career in hospitality. The program is part of the Certificate 3 in Hospitality, taught at Villa College. The apprentices will have on-location accommodation until the end of the apprenticeship.
The resort informed that various aspects of Front Office, F&B and housekeeping will be taught during the apprenticeship.
After the apprenticeship, which is planned to stretch throughout a period of one year, all the apprentices will receive an MQA approved certificate, along with a formal statement validating their practical working experience in the resort.
The fees of the program will be fully waived, with 8 days off work once every 2 months. A remuneration of MVR 2500 will be given to all the apprentices, as well as accommodation, meals and access to internet.
This would mark the third time Royal Island is collaborating with Villa College for such a program.
