Shifaz Mohamed has secured himself the first spot on the National Athletics Team to compete in the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG).
Shifaz reached the target assigned to him by the Athletics Association on Saturday, while breaking the current National Record of Half Marathon.
The timeframe given by the association to qualify for half marathon was 1:13:00. Shifaz completed the run in 1:13:04, while breaking the current National records of 15km run and 20km run in the process.
The last National record was also made by him by finishing the Kantipur Half Marathon in 1:14:01 which was held in May 2018 at Nepal.
While the IOIG will be held in Mauritius in July later this year, only 5 spots have been given on the National squad for the half marathon. Shifaz has been training in Kenya since November 2018.
