Foakaidhoo FC put out a spirited performance yesterday in the Dhivehi Premier League as they held league favorites Maziya to a goalless draw.
Maziya, who had beaten Nilandhoo by a record-breaking 13 goals to nil last week, was restricted yesterday by an outstanding defensive performance by Foakaidhoo. Defenders Ali Shamis and Mahmoud put in exceptional performances as they held Maziya's attack at bay.
Maziya's best goal scoring chance of the match fell to Ibrahim Mahudhee whose shot was saved by the Foakaidhoo goalkeeper. Asadhulla Abdulla and Hamza Mohamed also had chances to put Maziya in front, but was wasteful in front of goal.
Speaking after the match, Foakaidhoo coach Ali Nishthar said he never expected his team to get a draw from this match, considering the strength of Maziya's attack. He commended the hard work of his players in getting this result.
Maziya coach Marjan Sekuloski also praised Foakaidhoo's performance in the match, but noted that his team must be more clinical in front of goal.
With this result, Maziya moved to second place in the league table with 7 points from 3 matches. Meanwhile, Foakaidhoo moved to fifth place with 4 points from 3 matches.
Two matches took place today in the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League. United Victory took on Da Grande today and defending champions TC sports Club took on Green Street tonight.
