The Maldivian Table Tennis team has embarked on additional training sessions in India, ahead of the upcoming 10th Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in Mauritius from July 18 to 28.
According to the Table Tennis Association, the national TT team will be training in Haryana's Pinnacle Academy. The team comprises of four male players - Moosa Munsif, Zeesth Naseem, Munthif Ahmed and Shaffan Ismail, as well as five female players - Mueena Mohamed, Fathimath Dheema Ali, Rafa Nazim, Laisaa Fathuhulla and Jumana Nimal.
However, one of the female players will be left out in the final squad, as the lineup requires four players.
The Association noted that Dheema is currently conducting higher education in China; hence she would not be taking part in the training sessions.
Maldives will be challenging 10 various sports in the upcoming tournament: athletics, badminton, beach volley, football, basketball, tennis, swimming, table tennis, volleyball and kite surfing.
While the Maldives has already claimed eight medals from the previous games, it aims to take home 15 medals on this run.
