The international governing body of volleyball, FIVB has ordered the Maldivian Olympic Committee not to accept any decisions made by the interim committee of the Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM).
The order from FIVB came after the sports commission annulled the executive committee of VAM, and handed their work to a 5-member interim committee on June 10.
According to the sports commission, the tasks of the interim committee would include investigating and resolving VAM’s problems and overseeing the election of a new executive committee.
However, FIVB has now asked the Maldivian Olympic Committee not to accept any decisions made by the interim committee of VAM. FIVB noted that they are the parent organization of VAM, and that any issues related to the association will be looked into by FIVB.
They also said that FIVB has not been informed of the reasons or facts behind the dismissal of VAM’s executive committee, and requested the Olympic committee to share the details of the matter with FIVB.
The VAM interim committee selected by the sports commission includes former Vice President of the Basketball Association of Maldives Abdulla Amir, chairman of the sports cooperation Hussain Mohamed, Olympic committee ex-co member Ahmed Ismail and two officials from the sports ministry.
The interim committee has also been tasked with drafting a new set of regulations for the association.
