Sri Lanka has beaten Maldives in the international volleyball friendly played in Male' on Tuesday night.
The Sri Lankan national volleyball team is currently in Maldives upon the invitation of Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof.
During their tour, they will be playing three matches with the Maldivian national team who are preparing for the Central Zone Championship in Nepal. Last night's match was the second match of their tour, with Sri Lanka winning the first match in straight sets.
Sri Lanka won last night's match by 3 sets to 1. Maldives had started the match well and won the first set by 25-20. However, their performance dropped in the next two sets, allowing Sri Lanka to win the two sets comfortably by 25-15 and 25-16.
Maldives improved in the fourth set and fought hard but lost the set 25-23 to hand the win to Sri Lanka.
A large number of supporters had gathered at the volleyball court in the Youth Center to watch the match last night. The sports ministry had been promoting the match for the past few weeks in order to gather supporters.
The national volleyball team had also recently completed a training camp in Serbia before the start of the Indian Ocean Island Games.
