Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment says the badminton court being developed in Addu City will be completed sometime during next month.
Speaking to VNews, youth ministry's media officer said the badminton complex being developed in the empty land adjacent to the Hithadhoo Community Centre is a MVR 6 million project.
The media officer said the project was handed over to Addu Peoples Corporative Society on May 22.
According to the ministry, four badminton courts, a badminton hall and two storeys built to accommodate international tournaments will be built at the complex in the Hithadhoo Youth Centre building.
The ministry said the first tournament to take place at the complex will be the "Under 21 South Asian Badminton Championship" slated for the coming October.
The Under 21 South Asian Badminton Championship was last held in Nepal.
It is noteworthy that Maldivian athletes Fathimath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq and Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq had won silver medals at the doubles category in the tournament.
