Statistics from the Ministry of Tourism have revealed that one million tourists have arrived in Maldives this year.
The statistics released by the tourism ministry shows that the one millionth arrival for the year was recorded on August 2. The number of tourist arrivals at the end of July was 994,733.
The figure at the end of July is a 17.2 percent increase when compared to the same period last year. While 132,144 tourists arrived during the month of July, this is also an 8 percent increase when compared to July 2018.
China has provided the largest number of tourists in 2019, with 172,834 Chinese tourists visiting Maldives so far this year. India is second on the list with 93,175 tourists, while United States contributed 49,821 tourists.
Europe tops the list of continents with most tourist arrivals to Maldives this year, with 487,165 tourists arriving from Europe. Meanwhile, 413,066 tourist arrivals were recorded from the Asia-Pacific region.
At the end of July, 49,095 hotel beds have been registered in Maldives, with 45,983 beds operated this year. An occupancy rate of 64 percent was recorded during this period.
The statistics also showed that the average stay for a tourist is 6.3 days.
