Acting President of Goidhoo Council Mohamed Amir has said that he believes connecting B. Fehendhoo and Goidhoo by a causeway would be beneficial.
Responding to a question posed by VNews, Amir said that he has not been able to gather the public's opinion as no government institution has discussed the idea with the council in an official manner.
He stated that the residents of the islands will greatly benefit with the two islands joined, and that he saw businesses profiting due to it as well.
Goidhoo has a population of 800 citizens. The main source of income for the island is agriculture, and fishing to an extent. Fehendhoo is seven minutes away from Goidhoo in the same lagoon and has a population of 300. It is one of the least densely populated islands in the country.
Fehendhoo residents have said that the biggest struggle they face is the lack of education available in the island. Students have to travel to Goidhoo by sea every day to go to school.
It is noteworthy that Goidhoo has a flourishing guesthouse business that began in 2010.
