Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has said that the work done by Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Company (MMPRC) to promote tourism during the first six months of this year is commendable.
In a statement released by MATATO, the association stated that the advances in the tourism industry this year is largely credited to the work done by MMPRC under the current Managing Director Thoyyib Mohamed.
Comparing the tourism industry in the past 10 years to this year, MATATO noted that the 1.1 million tourists who have visited the Maldives up till now is also due to the work done by multiple organisations.
MATATO also commended the Ministry of Tourism and the government for their efforts to improve the tourism industry.
According to MATATO, private and non-governmental associations had to work to advertise the Maldivian tourism industry during 2016 to 2018, as former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom's government rarely paid heed to it, but that the current government has actively worked to promote it.
The statistics released by Tourism Ministry shows that 1 million tourists have visited the Maldives up to August 2.
MMPRC has hosted 15 fairs in 12 countries, 5 roadshows in 13 countries, conducted 11 fame trips, as well as appoint 12 PRs as part of the work being done to promote tourism. They have also hosted 12 joint promotions, 2 global advertising events, 6 networking trips, 2 local events, 12 endorsement events, and 1 guesthouse training this year.
Maldivian tourism industry has won 8 awards in different categories this year.
Managing Director of MMPRC Thoyyib Mohamed has said that the government aims to bring 1.5 million tourists to the Maldives. He noted that 1.1 million tourists have already visited the Maldives, and that the government will most likely attain its goal during the end of November.
