Maldivian religious scholar Sheikh Ilyas Hussain has been given the opportunity to act as a judge in an international Quran reciting competition held in Saudi Arabia.
King Abdul Azeez International Quran Competition will be held in Mecca.
Sheikh Ilyas Hussain is already in Saudi Arabia to act as a judge in the competition. This is the first known opportunity received by a Maldivian scholar to judge in an international Quran competition.
The winner of the King Abdul Azeen Quran Competition will secure a prize of USD 67,000. The competition is being attended by 146 people from 103 different countries.
It is noteworthy that Sheikh Ilyas is currently studying for his PhD in Malaysia, and has also recently been granted a representational position in the Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia.
Sheikh Ilyas Hussain is a popular religious scholar in the Maldives who delivers talks on various issues.
