Government Oversight Committee of the Parliament has decided to seek further information regarding the death of the three year old Mohamed Ibthihal, who was found dead last Wednesday in V. Rakeedhoo.
The committee decided to seek further information from the relevant institutions during a meeting held on Sunday.
Even though the committee had decided to seek further information regarding the case, Addu Meedhoo MP had initially proposed to summon those relevant from the Gender Ministry, Family and Child Protection Authority, Maldives Police Service and Rakeedhoo Council to the committee to hold them accountable.
Members of the committee belonging to the ruling party had then claimed that summoning those members to the committee may hinder their investigations regarding the case. However, all the members had noted that Ibthihal died due to the negligence of others, and that those responsible for his death should be given punishment regarding the issue.
