Captain of the Maldivian National Team Ali Ashfaq (Dhagandey) says that the upcoming SAFF Suzuki Cup (also known as the SAFF Championships) - which is to be held in India next month - is the last time that he will be playing in the tournament.
In an exclusive interview with Vnews, the leading scorer in the SAFF Championship history said that this was the last time that would be playing in the Championships, thus he wanted the most out of the curtain call.
The 30-year old footballer said that he wanted to end his final gig in the SAFF Championships with a victory and a trophy.
Dhagandey made a record 14 goals throughout his participation in the Championships in the years 2005, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2013. He also the linchpin who drove the team to a victory against Sri Lanka in the 2008 tournament, having won the cup in the process.
He had also repeated the same spectacular feature in 2013 and 2015 as well.
He expressed a strong resolve to win the upcoming match, with the help of the national spirit portrayed by both his teammates and the supporters, as Maldives prepares itself to face its Group-B rivals Afghanistan, Bhutan and Bangladesh.
