Seven clubs from the association and 95 school teams from all over the country participates in the 10th Makita Atoll Junior Championship held from March 20 to 23, in Addu City, Hithadhoo.
Athletics Association said the seven clubs participating in the championship are Kuda Hussein Sports Association, Keen Youth Sports Academy, Ziphius Sports Club, Club Calm Sports, Club Mugoo Sports, Club Raiveriya and Thinadhoo Youth Club.
The schools participating in the tournament are H.Dh Atoll Education Centre, Jamaaludheen School, Dhaandhoo School, G.Dh Atoll School, Huvadhoo School, Kanduhulhudhoo School, G.Dh Atoll Education Centre, Thinadhoo School, Aboobakuru School, Fuvahmulah School, Haafiz Ahmed School, Madharasathul Sheikh Mohamed Jamaaludheen, Gn. Atoll Education Centre, Hulhudhoo School, S. Atoll School, Hithadhoo School, Sharafudhdheen School, Addu High School, Maradhoo School, Maradhoo Feydhoo School, Irushaadhiyya School and Feydhoo School, association said.
Athletics association said, the tournament will be categorized into six age groups; 18 teams (male) and 20 teams (female) in Under 13, 17 teams (male) and 14 teams (female) in Under 16, 14 teams (male) and 12 teams (female) in Under 19 age group.
Champion team will receive MVR 7,000, Runner-up team will receive MVR 5,000 and the third team will receive MVR 3,000.
The reigning champions of the tournament for men’s category is MS Helping Hand Sports Academy and for women’s category is H.Dh Kulhudhuffushi Jalaaludhdheen School. The best female athlete was Aishath Zaara from Club Eagles. The best male athlete was Mohamed Shazeen from Gn. Education Centre.
