Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has warned of the dangers of disturbing marine life.
EPA asked that people do not disturb sea life, after photos circulated in social media of people in R. Kudafushi interacting with a sea snake.
EPA’s Director General Ibrahim Naeem said this particular creature is a yellow-bellied sea snake, which are common in tropical oceanic waters.
He warned that a person could become paralyzed and die if they are not immediately treated for its poisonous bite.
He advised people to be cautious of such marine life and not to touch or disturb them, as they might be venomous.
