Bottles of alcohol confiscated by Maldives Customs Service were destroyed on Sunday.
Customs said the bottles were destroyed in the presence of officials of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and the Ministry of Defense, in the newly reclaimed land in Hulhumale’.
The destroyed items included 1,107 bottles and 180 cans seized on different occasions.
A total of 601 bottles from MACL’s warehouse and stores were also destroyed because they reached expiry date or were damaged, said Customs.
Customs have a responsibility to destroy certain confiscated items under conditions laid out in their regulation.
