Maldives football team TC Sports Club will face South Korea’s FC Pocheon in the finals of Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup held in Bangladesh.
Pocheon secured the last spot of the finals by winning the second semi-final match on Tuesday against Bangladesh’s Chittagong Abahani, by 2-1.
Chittagong Abahani took the lead in the 23rd minute of the match by Jamal Bulyaan’s goal. However, by the end of the first half around the 43rd minute mark, Jang Yong of Pocheon scored a goal by penalty shootout, drawing the teams. And the winning goal was shot in the 46th minute, by Park Seung, securing their spot in the finals.
TC secured a spot in the finals after beating Nepal’s team Manang Marshyangdi by 1-0. The only goal of the historical match played on Monday was scored in the 83rd minute by TC captain Nafiu Ali (Kalhey).
The Nepal team has eight national team players, therefore winning against such a team is no small feat. This is a matter of great pride to all Maldivians, TC team head coach Mohamed Nizam (Nizaambe) said.
The final match will be held on March 3. This is the second year the tournament is being held. The champion team will receive USD 30,000 while the runner-ups will receive USD 15,000.
This is the first time that TC is competing in an International tournament.
