A group of locals boarded a safari boat, docked outside K. Maafushi, on Wednesday night and confronted its crew when they refused to sell alcohol.
According to reports, the tourists onboard the vessel were shaken by the incident and thought it was a hijacking.
The young group reportedly went near the safari on a dingy, took several rounds around the boat and boarded it without permission. After verbally abusing the crew they even assaulted the boat’s captain. They claimed to be from Maafushi and told the crew that if the boat was to be docked outside Maafushi, they should sell alcohol to them.
While the incident is being investigation, police said a 22-year-old man has been arrested
