Former president Mohamed Nasheed has criticized the decision to bar media personnel and public from entering Parliament’s gallery on Monday.
The leader of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) said on twitter that barring the media, NGOs, and the public from entering Parliament was a deliberate attempt to obfuscate the no-confidence motion against the Speaker of Parliament.
He called on President Abdulla Yameen to stop his "heavy handedness".
Police have cordoned off the area around Parliament, barring journalists and the public from entering.
Parliament has concluded debate on the no-confidence motion against Speaker Maseeh, and the sitting will resume at 1:30 p.m.
