Tourist arrivals this year up until February shows a 7.6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Statistics from the tourism ministry showed that 346,388 tourists arrived in Maldives from January to February 2017, while only 229,035 tourists arrived in the same period in 2016.
So far this year, 131,760 or 53.5% of tourists were from Europe, and 95,626 of the tourists were from Asia Pacific.
10,048 tourists were from the United States, and 7,350 were from the Middle East.
When looking at specific countries, most tourists were from China, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, Russia, France, Switzerland, Japan, and the United States.
This year, a total of 37,348 beds in 700 places were registered to the ministry to accommodate the tourists. These places included 126 resorts, 14 hotels, 416 guesthouses, and 144 safaris.
