Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim says President Abdulla Yameen is alone today, and that all those who were loyal to him have either been eliminated or have left his side.
Qasim made the statement during the opposition multi-party rally held at JP’s head office, M. Kunooz, on Monday night.
He said 94 percent of the people are backing the four opposition leaders and that there is no one with President Yameen. He added that those who are around the President now know the kind of person he is.
“There is no one with you (President Yameen) anymore. Everyone knows you, inside and out. Every single person who had been loyal and provided services (sincerely) have been eliminated.” Qasim said.
Qasim said while those who have worked to bring President Yameen to power have either been jailed or have left his side, the President should be ashamed of the way he is treating his half-brother, former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and his sons and daughters.
Speaking about government’s recent call for all-party talks, Qasim said there is no sincerity from President Yameen, which is the reason why talks failed. He added that the President lacks the patience required to hold talks with the opposition.
“President Yameen should be ashamed to talk about democracy and call for discussions. There is no sincerity in his words, otherwise the country would not have come to this situation.”
The JP leader further said that heads of state institutions know how to follow the law and that they should say “no” to unlawful orders. When someone is cruel, they should be bold enough to say that person is cruel, he added.
Referring to claims that government is getting ready to prosecute him and impose financial restrictions on his company, Villa Group, Qasim said he is not afraid of any of it.
