Maldives Police Service said they have found crucial information in Raudha Athif’s phone.
The 21-year-old Maldivian medical student was found dead on March 29 in her hostel dormitory at Islami Bank Medical College in Bangladesh.
Two Maldives police officers have been working with Bangladeshi police to investigate her untimely death.
Earlier, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) said they are treating her death as a murder, and that her laptop and mobile phone have been sent to the capital Dhaka’s criminal investigation department.
In a tweet on Thursday, police said they have now unlocked Raudha’s phone and uncovered crucial information.
Her relatives have repeatedly said that she did not commit suicide, and her father Dr Mohamed Athif told the Bangladeshi media that she was murdered.
Her relatives said that the Bangladeshi police have been irresponsible in their investigation by not following proper procedure, and that the Bangladeshi attorneys also share their belief.
While the initial investigation concluded that there was no sign of physical or sexual abuse, Raudha’s parents said there were injuries to her face and neck.
