Jumhooree Party leader and Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim urged his supporters to cooperate with police as they raided his residence, Maafannu Villa, and Villa Building on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to reporters and his supporters who gathered near Maafannu Villa when police raided the place, Qasim said he has been talking about issues that need to be corrected in the country and that reformists should set examples to others. He said police are working within the legal powers granted to them, and urged his supporters to cooperate with police the same way that he does.
“I urge everyone not to create unrest and clear the area.”
Qasim further said that only his legal team member Hisan Hussain was allowed to enter his residence during the police raid.
Speaking to reporters, Hisan said the raid was conducted in relation to the ongoing court case. She said that police could not find any evidence to back the allegations against Qasim.
Members of the opposition political movement are strongly condemning the raids.
