A special air and sea search operation has begun for the landing craft travelling from K. Thulusdhoo to L. Gan, which went missing with six on board.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said the landing craft “Maria-3” was reported missing to their Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), around 4:16 am on Thursday.
Of the six on-board, two were locals and the rest were expatriates, MNDF said.
VNews has learned that the two locals are native to Th. Vilufushi.
MNDF said they have been searching for the vessel since the incident was reported. The special operation is being carried out by military helicopter, Coast Guard vessel ‘Huravee’, and harbor patrol speedboats.
If any incident occurs at sea, sea travelers are to immediately call the Coast Guard’s toll-free number 191, said MNDF.
MNDF quoted the owner of the missing landing craft saying that the ship was last contacted at 9:30 pm on May 16, Tuesday night.
MNDF said the landing craft is 139 feet long, painted green with a white spur structure wheelhouse at the back and red on top.
