Writer Ahmed Shiyam’s first novel “Ibrahim’s Dream” has been released and will be available in bookshops on Saturday.
At the launch ceremony, Mr Shiyam said the novel is based on the life of two lovers who have been together for 45 years.
While the story was inspired by real life events in Thaa Atoll, the events in the novel takes place in Haa Alif Atoll.
Shiyam said that since the main plot is heavily based on real life events, it should not be regarded as fiction.
He also announced that he is currently writing three other books.
This includes a book named “North Trip” which is about a trip Shiyam took to 98 northern islands, he explained.
He has his autobiography in the works as well.
Ahmed Shiyam has been in the Maldives literary industry for 30 years, and has worked for various newspapers and magazines throughout his career.
He has also worked at the defense ministry, the home ministry, and the former information ministry, and currently works at the Information Commissioner’s Office.
