The national football team coach said he chose members for the national team after taking their skill in to account.
Speaking to journalists at the airport prior to a friendly match with Afghanistan, coach Darren Stewart assured there was no personal bias in picking the squad, and that he did not take a player’s age as an issue.
Some coaches have criticized the team picked to play in the Asian Cup Qualifying match against Bhutan on June 13, after seeing that experienced Victory SC midfielder Mohamed Arif was absent.
Stewart said the squad was chosen with the help of his assistant after observing players in various matches.
He also praised Green Street’s forward Ahmed Rasheed and New Radiant’s defender Akram Abdul Ghanee, who was chosen after being absent from the national team for a long time.
