Jerseys have been awarded to the women’s team competing in the 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship starting on August 9.
The jerseys were presented by Committee Chairman Mohamed Anees, at the awarding ceremony held at Youth Centre’s Seminar Room on Thursday.
Speaking at the ceremony, Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM)’s President Mohamed Latheef said the championship is an extremely important one for the women’s team, hence they should try their utmost to perform well.
Latheef emphasized that each player will be an ambassador representing Maldives and should therefore portray the highest level of discipline and teamwork while abroad.
The ceremony was attended by national men’s team manager Ali Latheef, national women’s team manager Hassan Agleem, and women’s team Coach Mohamed Nadheem.
The team began training on June 19 in preparation for the tournament that is held from August 9 to 17 in Philippines. Thailand, Taiwan and Iran will compete in the group with Maldives.
The team’s coach Mohamed Nadheem said although they got a short period to prepare, the team is ready and in high spirits to face the tournament. He said the other teams in the group are strong teams, which would be a good experience for the Maldivian women’s team to prepare for upcoming tournaments.
