President Abdulla Yameen has hinted that the salaries of civil service employees will be raised next year.
President Yameen said this in a speech at the opening ceremony of a new ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) campaign site on Monday night.
He said that next year’s budget will be a hopeful one for all civil service and state employees.
He also said that the finance minister is working with the pay commission to make better changes to the civil service’s salary policy.
Alluding to Former President Mohamed Nasheed, he said the salaries of civil service employees had been withheld for a long period of time during a certain president’s administration, and added that no civil service employee will be left without being provided their salary under the current administration.
Some MPs of the ruling party have also hinted that salaries of civil service employees will be raised next year.
The opposition have claimed that employee salaries are being decreased for the presidential election next year, and that most civil service employees will not vote for President Yameen.
