The national women’s volleyball team that competed in the 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship have returned from the Philippines.
The tournament was held from August 9 to 17 in Manila, Philippines.
The Maldivian team lost all the matches in the group stage against Thailand, Taiwan and Iran. They also lost against Australia and Sri Lanka in the Ranking matches.
Maldives lost the first match to Thailand in three straight sets; 5-25, 12-25 and 9-25. Maldives faced defeat at the hands of Taiwan in a similar manner by 9-25, 8-25 and 10-25.
Iran defeated Maldives by 25-4, 25-13 and 25-14, and Maldives lost to Australia by 9-25, 5-25 and 19-25.
In the Ranking match against Sri Lanka Maldives fared better but got the same end result by losing in three straight sets; 13-25, 19-25 and 14-25.
The team was headed by former player and experienced coach Mohamed Nadheem.
