Parliament has sent the name of Mohamed Hussain Shareef to the committee on national security to appoint him as Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
Members of diplomatic missions to foreign countries and international organizations are to be appointed with the consultation of Parliament, according to Article (l) of the Constitution.
Mr Shareef, who has worked in the government for 17 years, has been the Ambassador to Japan since receiving his Letter of Appointment in December of last year.
During Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's rule he worked in the foreign relations sector and as the government’s spokesperson.
He was the youth minister in the Waheed administration, and the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs in the Yameen administration before abruptly resigning for undisclosed reasons.
