Two plastic animals locked inside a cage in the recently re-opened Children’s Park was removed after it sparked ridicule aimed at the government.
Children’s Park was opened with renovations on Friday after a nine-month period.
While changes were made to the park, most took notice of a plastic leopard and reindeer inside a cage, and posted images of the attractions online, sparking mockery aimed at the government.
One post states that the current administration, after unlawfully punishing and imprisoning people, have moved on to imprisoning plastic animals.
An officer of the defense force that was part of the renovation work has said that the plastic animals were not meant to be placed inside the cage, and therefore they have been taken out.
Children’s Park or ‘Kudakudhinge Bageecha’ has been a favorite spot for children, the biggest attraction there being a crocodile which has not been seen since the renovations.
The crocodile was four-feet in length when it was brought into the park in 1998, and had grown to eight-feet by the time it was taken out of the park in 2015.
There has been no confirmation on what happened to it, but there were media reports that it was shot and buried by the defense force.
