Former president Mohamed Nasheed has called on the security forces not to support unlawful actions of President Abdulla Yameen.
The opposition leader said this in a tweet on Friday, expressing concern about the indefinite detention of Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon.
Nasheed had on previous occasions also called on the security forces to uphold the constitution and save the country.
Faris, who has been charged with bribery, was arrested on July 18, after almost a four-hour search of his apartment in M. Snow Rose. The Criminal Court ordered to keep the MP in detention pending the outcome of his trial.
However, it is noteworthy that when the court ordered his indefinite detention, he had not even been charged. He was charged on August 17, and the court summoned him on August 28 to hand over case documents.
The MP appealed his detention to the High Court. And although 29 days have passed since hearings were concluded, the court is yet to issue its verdict. As per the Penal Code, verdict has to be issued within 30 days of the final hearing of a case.
