GA. Villingili residents held a rally protesting the oppression of the Rohingya Muslim minority of Myanmar on Friday.
Many residents of the island took to the roads, condemning the atrocities committed by the Buddhists towards the Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar.
They raised questions about why the United Nations and other Human Rights groups have failed to intervene in the matter. They also said Myanmar’s leader Aung San Suu Kyi is undeserving of the Nobel Peace Prize that was given to her.
The protestors accused the world of being dormant while Rohingya women get raped and men and children get killed.
Maldivians have been strongly condemning the atrocities of the Buddhists on social media.
Furthermore, the Government of Maldives cut trade ties with Myanmar recently, condemning the atrocities being committed against Rohingya Muslims and called the international community to act swiftly to stop the bloodshed.
