Detention has once again been extended by 15 days for Mohamed Mafaz Hussain of G. Shaaraaz, who has been arrested in connection with the murder of 24-year-old Nadheem Abdul Rahman of Ibraahimee Hiyaa, HA. Thakandhoo.
Mafaz, who has prior criminal record, is the only suspect police have arrested in connection with the murder, and this is the third time his detention has been extended since his arrest on August 10.
Nadheem was stabbed in the head inside Terminal Café in Male’ on the evening of July 27. He died from severe head injuries less than two days later while receiving treatment at ADK Hospital.
Mafaz was among criminals who were given electronic tagging devices when Umar Naseer served as the home minister. And although Criminal Court had ordered to keep him in police custody until the end of his trial for violating the MoniCon order, he was free at the time of the arrest. Following severe scrutiny and questions over the issue, police later said that he was released in April this year after the expiration of his one-year prison sentence.
