The Joint Opposition on Sunday said that the government is trying to conceal former vice president Ahmed Adeeb’s medical condition.
They said this after Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) requested to give him an unknown injection.
Speaking at a press conference held at Jumhooree Party (JP)’s main office at M. Kunooz, North-Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy said while Adeeb is facing various medical conditions, he was not consulted by the same doctor twice.
He said this is done to conceal and mislead the reality of Adeeb’s medical state and treatment.
Imthiyaz said it is concerning that MCS attempted to give Adeeb an unknown injection in the name of doing a CT scan, and MCS informing his family that Adeeb has no qualms about the injection, which the family states is a lie, is also deeply worrying.
Noting that previous statements made by President Yameen indicates his reluctance to provide medical treatment for Adeeb, Imthiyaz said if any harm comes to Adeeb, the government has to take responsibility for it.
He also said that many inmates have died in suspicious conditions, such as the recent death of Abdullah Rasheed, G. Keema, in prison.
Imthiyaz said medical treatment should be provided to every single citizen and that no excuse can be shown to withhold medical help.
