A group of Maldivian fishermen have caught five foreign vessels illegally fishing in Maldivian waters.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said the vessels were caught by locals fishing off the coast of GA. Kolamaafushi on Saturday, and coast guard were on the way.
One of the fishermen told VNews that when the foreign vessels refused to stop, they threw a rope which caught a boat’s propeller forcing them to stop.
He said that they informed MNDF and were blocking the foreign vessels. He added that one one of the vessels was being towed due to engine failure, and the rope which was being used to tow it was cut off and the vessel was tied to the Maldivian vessel.
