HDh. Kulhudhuffushi airport project’s land reclamation work resumed on Saturday after a break caused by a technical issue the dredger faced.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which is carrying out the land reclamation work, built a custom-made dredger for the purpose.
Speaking to VNews, MTCC’s CEO Ibrahim Ziyath said that the technical issue was a minor one, explaining that a rope got entangled in it. He said the issue has been resolved and work has resumed.
Ziyath also revealed that MTCC is currently doing some research due to the absence of sufficient amount of sand in the area where sand is being taken from for the airport project.
MTCC says that the 14 hectares of land required for the project will be reclaimed within one month. The airport construction is scheduled to be completed by August 2018.
MTCC spent MVR 36 million on building the dredger, which is 92.95 meters long and 16.30 meters wide. It was built by Netherland’s IHC at China’s Nantong Rainbow Marine Technology boatyard.
