Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) said that they did not receive a storm warning over Maldives for December.
Met Office said this to clarify news which was spread in social media, that a storm would hit the area where Maldives is located.
Met Office said no relevant authorities have cautioned them against such an incident to occur in December.
The people of the country are updated on the weather conditions of the country around the clock, thus such incidents would be announced beforehand, if there is any probability of it occurring, Met Office said.
Met Office said the country is experiencing low pressure tough, resulting in the rainy weather.
Weather predictions for the next 24 hours show rain and thunder throughout the country.
Met Office stated that from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, the southern atolls will experience wind speeds of 13 – 20 mph heading west to south-west. Other regions will experience wind speeds of 5 – 15 mph heading west to north-west.
Wind gusts are expected to reach 40 mph, and southern seas are expected to be rough, while other regions will be calm.
