Maldives Police Service (MPS) on Thursday have removed Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s big flag hoisted at GA. Kolamaafushi under a court order.
The flag, hoisted on a 100-foot flagpole, was lowered down by the police around 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
According to the court order, the flag was removed as it was hoisted in violation of flag guidelines, which they were informed about on several occasions. However they failed to comply with flag guidelines, the court order said.
A member of MDP native to the island told VNews that they complied with the police, when the latter arrived with a court order to remove the flag, as they respect the court order.
The source said they did not comply with previous warnings regarding the flag guideline as it was a vague verbal warning which did not clarify any article or law which they had to comply with.
The police also searched Keeranmaage, where the flag was hoisted, under the court order to find evidence that the flag was hoisted in violation of the flag guidelines.
