Supreme Court Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed has requested the people to appeal for help from the international community.
Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed said this during the first family visit allowed after seven days of being incarcerated. He also said that since his imprisonment he has been treated inhumanly and is being pressured to resign.
CJ Abdulla Saeed’s family said that he is standing firm and courageous, and physically appears to be in good health. There are no visible injuries on him, the family said.
Security forces stormed the Supreme Court on February 5 and arrested Saeed along with Justice Ali Hameed. Saeed’s lawyer said that he was dragged on the floor and into the vehicle by security forces when he was arrested.
The security officers who violated the sanctity of Supreme Court were sentenced to 15 days in prison. However the statement released by the Supreme Court after the security forces stormed the court stated that such a verdict was not issued, CJ said.
The international community has also called on the Maldivian government to obey the Supreme Court verdict issued on February 1, 2018, and to release the detained judges.
