Hundreds have taken part in the mass opposition rally held on Majeedhee Magu on Friday.
Opposition party members along with the public gathered in the hundreds on Majeedhee Magu for the rally which began at 4:30 p.m.
When the peaceful protest began, police had pushed back the crowds and taken some banners from the protestors.
Police had used undue force and pepper spray while pushing back the crowd from the Majeedhee Magu – Chandhanee Magu junction, and had also arrested some protestors.
The protestors had gathered at Maaveyo Magu – Majeedhee Magu junction, Chaandhanee Magu – Majeedhee Magu junction, Alikileygefaanu Magu – Majeedhee Magu junction, and Sosun Magu – Majeedhee Magu junction.
Speaking to the protestors during the rally, North Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy said it is the responsibility of every citizen to stand up against the current rule in the country.
Thulushdoo MP, while speaking to rally participants, said that while the police are using pepper spray to harm the people, there is a specific law regarding the usage of pepper spray at the police station.
And if the pepper spray is used in violation of the guideline, police have to take responsibility for their actions, he said,
Along with the public, many senior members of political parties, MPs and their families took part in the rally.
