Dhangethi MP Ilham Ahmed’s younger brother Adam Zalif is being questioned by police on the accusation of destroying evidence.
Zalif’s lawyer told VNews on Wednesday that police questioned his client and took his statement about a week ago.
He said that the accusation against Zalif is based on Artilce 530 and Article 533 of the Penal Code.
“Zalif answered police’s questions. But he denied the accusation against him.”
The lawyer also said that Zalif is being accused in connection with a mobile phone belonging to MP Ilham, which police have been attempting to locate.
When Zalif accompanied Ilham’s wife to the police station as her lawyer on February 12, police confiscated his phone. He was arrested a week later.
Police have previously searched the current residences of Ilham and Zalif in an effort to locate the phone.
Ilham, who is also in police custody, was arrested on February 12 when he appeared at the police station. He is being accused of bribery and conspiring to overthrow the government.
Since their arrest, the brothers are being held at the Dhoonidhoo detention centre.
