A young man accused of endangering national security by taking a photo of Hilaaleege and Maldivian National Defence Force (MNDF)’s headquarters, has been arrested and later released.
Hussain Shinaan, H. Ranvilaa, was stopped by MNDF on Monday night and handed over to police, who then arrested him. Hussain Shinaan, a member of Adeeb's team, is known to be very active on social media.
According to Shinaan, eight MNDF officers surrounded him while he was walking near Supreme Court on Monday night and showed him a photo, questioning him whether it was him on the photo. When he responded in the affirmative, MNDF officers reportedly told him that he is being sought by the defence force and called the police and had him arrested.
Shinaan said he was first taken to Maafannu police station after being arrested and was then taken to police headquarters.
“Police said I was arrested for taking photos of Hilaaleege and Jumhooree Maidhaan, which was submitted as a threat to national security. Then, they checked my phone and released me after failing to find such a photo”, Shinaan said.
While Shinaan was released in the morning, police told him that he will be informed if they wish to summon him to the police station regarding the case again.
